Balancing New Storage vs Increased I/I Reduction

Balancing New Storage vs Increased I/I Reduction

    Challenge

The utility for this project owns and operates wastewater collection systems across four treatment plant basins serving approximately 500,000 people. In 2020, the utility partnered with Aguazé Solutions to evaluate and optimize the location of new storage facilities against increased I/I reduction throughout the collection system.

    Solution

Aguazé Solutions implemented Optimizer WCS from Optimatics to evaluate the total life cycle costs of tens of thousands solution combinations. New storage facility sizes and recommended I/I reduction targets were sized based on the cost effective balance between the two competing alternatives. Sensitivity analysis runs were completed to assess the impact of not achieving the recommended I/I targets on storage sizing and overall program costs.
